Ogun State prostitute in trouble as Governor sets up fresh committee

As part of efforts to curb a new trend of underage prostitution in Ogun State, the government has inaugurated an eight-man committee with the mandate to eradicate the menace.

It was gathered that the committee was set up by the state Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape, along with his counterpart in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Abiola Kufile, inaugurated the committee at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.

A statement on Sunday said Afuape explained that the committee had membership drawn from both ministries, adding that the members were saddled with the responsibilities of sensitising, arresting and rehabilitating underage prostitutes.

The statement also stated that there would be sensitisation in all the four stadia across the state before the enforcement would commence.

The statement read in part, “Our plan is that persons arrested after the sensitisation would be enrolled in relevant programmes that will add value to their lives.”

Afuape called on government at all levels and relevant stakeholders to join the crusade against underage prostitution.

 Afuape said a conducive environment must be provided for Nigerian youths in order for them to discover themselves and learn various skills to put an end to social vices.

Kufile said, “Teenage prostitution is shameful to womanhood and all must rise against it.”

She called on parents to be conscious of the wellbeing of their children by teaching them morals and instilling  the fear of God in them.
