Harry Kane Ecapes Three-Match Ban For His 'Headbutt' On Cesar Azpilicueta

Harry Kane is free to play the north London derby after being cleared of ‘head butting’ Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta last night.

Kane and the Chelsea captain clashed with the Spurs striker appeared to move his head towards Azpilicueta.

There were fears that Kane would miss three matches - against Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool.

But referee Andre Mariner told the FA he had seen the clash and deemed it not worthy of action at the time.

That means Kane now cannot be sanctioned under FA regulations.

Had Mariner not witnessed the clash, it would have been referred to a panel of three ex-refs to determine whether it was a red card offence.

After the match, former Premier League referee Mark Halsey said that Kane was lucky to still be on the pitch.

“Harry Kane was a lucky boy not to be sent off,” he said.

“The Tottenham striker clearly moved his head into Cesar Azpilicueta’s face and pictures show that he made contact with the Spaniard. And Kane could now face a three-match ban for violent conduct.

“A three-man Football Association panel will look at the incident and decide whether the England captain should be charged retrospectively.
