Flood takes over the road of Cross River University after two-day of continuous rain
A two-day continuous rain has wrecked havoc in most parts of Calabar, the Cross River State capital, as most houses were flooded after the downpour on Friday.Mostly affected were residents around Aka-Efa, Parliamentary, Target, Ebito, Ekpo-Abasi and Cross River University of Technology quarters, among others

The case of CRUTECH was more worrisome as the major channel which conveys rain water from other parts of the metropolis empties into the swamp behind the institution.
A resident, who resides in one of the quarters, Mr. Aniekan Bassey, said the residential area was overtaken by flood, adding that most residents had to relocate.
He said, “As I speak, the entire residential quarters of the Cross River University of Technology campus in Calabar are dangerously flooded. CRUTECH is helpless. Children are suffering. I am hosting some people who fled their areas because of the flooded areas. For how long will that continue?
“Will Cross River State government intervene for once with ecological funds? The channel one which brings in more flood water from Calabar town is collapsing within CRUTECH! Will Cross River State government pay attention to repairs and reconstruction? Who will save CRUTECH, Calabar? Please, let somebody help.”
The governor’s office was not left out as some staff members could not access the compound after the rain.
One of the members of staff, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “This is how we suffer each time it rains, but this one has been the worst since the beginning of this year.
“My office is flooded. I only pray it does not affect vital documents in the office. Something should be done to curb this menace. The flood drains are blocked; there is the need for them to be unblocked.”
An affected shop owner along Parliamentary Road, Mr. Mensah Okon, described the downpour as disaster.
“The rain has messed up many things in my shop. I was out there thinking that I was protecting the water from entering my shop but it entered more than I expected,” he said.
