'I did not walk to prove my fitness to anybody' - President Buhari breaks silence on long walk at Hometown, Daura
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, while coming back from Eid prayers in Daura, Katsina state, decided to take a walk.The Presidency then issues a statement saying that the President walked 800m, adding that it is a sign that he is fit to run for second term.
In a statement released online by the President through his social handle, Mr. President wrote he never intend to show how fit he was.
According to the President Buhari on his social media post, he said he did not go on long walk to impress anybody but instead he did it because the people of his constituency came out in large numbers to see him.
Much has been said about my walk in Daura,a few days ago. I didn’t do it to prove my fitness to anybody. The people of my constituency came out in large numbers to see me, & the car in which I was had tinted windows. So I decided to come out of the car so the people could see me.— Muhammadu Buhari (@MBuhari) August 24, 2018
He also added that, people who know him knows he is not given to chase cheap political points.
People who know me know that I am not given to chasing cheap political points. The crowd in Daura were not seeing me so I came out of the car so they could see me. President Buhari simply use the medium to express how committed he is to agriculture to improve the economy of the nation.
For our agriculture policy to succeed, we must be able to reach small farm holders with loans without collateral. Collateral is always a problem with smallholder farmers.
