Major oil Marketers Reveals When the Fuel Scarcity Will End
Major oil marketers have speculated that the current fuel scarcity crisis will end in a few days if the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) sustains its current level of supply.Queue at Filling station |
Mr. Obafemi Olawore who is the executive director of MOMAN spoke on Wednesday, December 27 saying they have been receiving the product from NNPC and suppling it to consumers. He said: “The NNPC has been giving us product and we have been distributing it; all what we are hoping for is that they should continue at the rate they are giving us.” On when the fuel scarcity will end, he said: “It is gradual. If they keep giving us the product like this, the scarcity should end in a few days’ time.”
However, the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA) said despite NNPC’s announcement, its members did not have petrol in their tanks.
Mr. Olufemi Adewole who is the executive-secretary of DAPPMA said: “Two of our depots have received products now and they are loading. Unfortunately, one of them that was supposed to load was turned back.
I don’t know why; I am still trying to investigate. But two of them have received product and they are loading. “We are loading and we are going to keep loading.
Our members have promised to do 24 hours until the queues disappear, provided they get the product.” A top official of one of the oil marketing companies in Lagos said a new ferry, Captain Gregory, arrived in Apapa on Wednesday, December 27 with about 35 million metric tonnes of petrol.
The source said: “If supply can be consistent like this, things will get better and people should be able to celebrate New Year without fuel scarcity.” Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused the federal government of providing cover for huge sleazes directly involving the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s interests and urged its officials to stop dishing out falsehood to suffering Nigerians.
In a statement by its publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan on Wednesday December 27, the party said it is completely reprehensible that the APC and the Federal Government has continue to stick to lies, particularly on the real reasons behind the biting fuel scarcity as well as their exposed attempt to pilfer $1bn from the Excess Crude Account (ECA). The PDP charged the APC-led federal government to tell Nigerians the truth regarding its handling of fuel related funds, particularly the circumstances surrounding the exposed diversion of fuel funds in sleazy oil subsidy payouts, rather than dissipating its tenuous energy on name callings.
The party also tasked the APC Government to speak out on reports of fraud in the oil regime whereupon 18 unregistered companies were used to lift and divert $1.1 trillion worth of crude oil in the last one year.
