The Head of Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Mr. Anthony Eboigbodin, disclosed this at the end of a Joint Account Allocation Committee meeting presided over by Obaseki at the Government House in Benin.
Eboigbodin explained that each of the families of the victims who were killed would receive the sum of N500,000.
Two of the victims, Christiana Ariu and Matina Omonyon, were reportedly raped and killed on their farms in Ewu community, Esan Central Local Government Area of the state.
Two others had also lost their lives after they were allegedly attacked by herdsmen in Ekpoma, Esan South-West, and Elele community near Auchi in Etsako West Local Government Area.
The governor had during his visit to some of the bereaved families in June condemned the attacks, describing the perpetrators as fleeing Boko Haram terrorists.
“These are not just herdsmen; they are Boko Haram terrorists. But we are working hard to put an end to this,” the governor had said.
Meanwhile, the Edo Civil Society Organisation has called on the State House of Assembly to restructure the proposed bill on grazing in order to address the challenges posed by the activities of herdsmen in the state.
According to the group, the expected bill should not provide a legal ownership for ranches.
The House of Assembly had on Friday concluded a two-day public hearing on an Anti-grazing Bill and received several papers and recommendations from different groups and associations.
But EDOCSO, in a statement signed by its Coordinator-General, Mr. Omobude Agho, said, “If the proposed bill will not be anti-grazing in nature; it must be discarded without further deliberation, which may amount to waste of time and resources of Edo people.
“We appreciate the leadership and honourable members of the Edo State House of Assembly for deeming it necessary for a public hearing on this bill. Our position is not to ridicule the exercise, but to assist in getting it right.
“Edo people do need a law and enforcement that will tackle the problems of nomadic cattle rearing, destruction of farmlands by cattle, rape, murder, kidnapping and other unwholesome activities of herdsmen and for the protection of the people,” it added.
