Ganduje Finally Reacts As INEC Declares Kano Election Inconclusive

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has applauded the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the governorship election in the state as inconclusive.

Concise News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday declared Kano governorship election inconclusive.

Prof. Bibi Shehu, the Collation Officer for the governorship election in the state, declared the election inconclusive due to high number of cancelled votes in comparison to margin between the winner and loser.

He explained that the winner of the election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defeated the All Progress Congress (APC) candidate with 26,000 votes, while the votes cancelled is 128,572 votes.

Shehu disclosed that the PDP candidate scored 1,014,474, leading the APC candidate who scored 987,819 votes, adding that 2,155,128 was recorded as Valid and 49,761 votes were rejected.

He, therefore, ordered for a rerun in areas where elections were cancelled in different parts of the State.

Reacting, Ganguje’s media aide, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, on his Twitter handle on Monday night, supported INEC decision in declaring the election inconclusive

According to him, the constitution approves of the electoral body’s decision.

Alongside a picture of a segment of constitution backing the move, he wrote: “In an election that is keenly contested and the margin is too close, this is what the law says with regards to cancelled votes and inconclusive elections.”
