Residents in shock as Bus conductor is found dead in welder’s workshop

A bus conductor was found dead inside a welder’s workshop on Tuesday at the Borokiri area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

It was gathered that the deceased, who was identified simply as Chisco, might have died in the night, but his body was discovered by the owner of the workshop and neighbours in the morning.

It was leant that the owner arrived at his workshop to resume the day’s work in the morning when he discovered that a young man was lying dead inside while the gate leading to the shop was still locked.

The workshop owner, according to a source, immediately rushed to the nearest police station and reported the incident.

An eyewitness, who refused to mention his name, stated that the deceased must have scaled the gate to gain entry into the workshop, adding that the victim was a drug addict.

The source alleged that the deceased must have been killed by hard drug overdose.

He said, “I know the dead man; we call him Chisco. He had worked with me before as my conductor. I saw him two days ago while he was working with another driver.

“Chisco, as I know him, was a drug addict; he used to take tramadol, Indian hemp and other harmful drugs. He must have jumped into the workshop, because he usually took his bath in the workshop after the workers had closed and gone home.

“Even the clothes he was wearing belong to an apprentice at the workshop. I suspect he must have taken overdose of hard drugs, which must have killed him.”

Another eyewitness, who identified herself simply as Chika, told Southern City News that the deceased was at loggerheads with his parents, adding that he had separated from his parents for some time.

She said, “Chisco did not go close to his parents and because of that, he slept anywhere he liked. Many people had been complaining about him that he stole their money or property.

“A man was complaining that he stole his vehicle battery and other property worth N50,000. Several complaints have been flying against him.”

When contacted, the Rivers State Police Public Relations, Mr Nnamdi Omoni, said he had not been briefed about the incident.
