The Independent National Electoral Commission in Ekiti State has said only 675,119 prospective voters who have collected their Permanent Voter’s Card can participate in Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

INEC Acting Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dr Muslim Omoleke, said the figure represented 73 per cent of registered voters in the state. He said 14 political parties would participate in the National Assembly election in the state.
Omoleke said, “Only 14 parties indicated interest for the Senate and House of Representatives in Ekiti out of the 73 parties that showed interest in the elections. We want to assure Nigerians that we will be fair to all parties. To us in INEC, no party is big or small, they are the same and it is in that spirit we are going to deal with them on the days of elections”.

INEC in Ekiti State had on Thursday distributed all sensitive and non-sensitive materials to the different local governments in readiness for Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

Commissioner of Police in Ekiti, Mr Asuquo Amba, said arrangements were in place for the security of lives and property and as well as to ensure free and fair polls.

Amba, who cautioned parents to warn their wards against being used as political thugs, said, “We frown at any form of electoral offence and perpetrators will be dealt with decisively. Registered voters are assured of safety. So, they should feel free to come out to perform their civic duties in all parts of the state”
