MC Oluomo, Nigeria’s Richest Area Boy still fighting to stay alive

At the All Progressives Congress Governorship campaign rally in Lagos, several top politicians in the state who are members of the ruling party were present, for a naturally traumatized people, whose leaders build fences to keep the masses out, this was a rare occasion for the ordinary Lagosian to see their representatives in person.

A keen look at the list of dignitaries indicate that the party’s support base cut across all works of life, including those many consider to be socio deviants. One of such dignitaries was Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, the treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

He was believed to have been out of the country for months due to some fracas which resulted in the death of the leader of a rival group, MC Oluomo who was not physically present at the scene of the rival’s murder, however, he is said to be responsible after it was alleged that one of his foot soldiers fired the fatal shot.

Back to the APC campaign;  The sitting governor, Akinwunmi Ambode was just about concluding his speech, the APC’s candidate was yet to address the crowd, when trouble broke out in the crowd, shots were heard everywhere, in the melee, MC Oluomo stabbed twice, ones on his neck and ones by the side of his stomach.

He is currently struggling for life at Eko Hospital, though there have been several reports making the rounds regarding his health but with some suggesting that he may have passed away, this has since been refuted by the authorities and the entire state, particularly residents of Oshodi where MC Oluomo rules with an iron hand are now living in fear, particularly if the union leader is pronounced dead, it will surely generate some form of breakdown of law and order and possibly lead to months of reprisal attacks as groups try to fill the power vacuum left by the Richest Area Boy in Nigeria.

But this is not the first time attempts have been made on the life of the street gangster, whom it must be said, is alleged to have ordered the summary execution of some of his rivals in the past.

Speaking during an interview with an online publication, MC Oluomo described how he escaped death but his driver was not so lucky. He said:

“I’ve not spoken to anyone concerning the issue. We left the office in my driver’s car for Sharon Hotel, Okota, and went to my room with my assistant, while the driver went to the gym. Around 1.30a.m., I heard a car honk its horn and saw some people entering the hotel.

“At first, I thought they were policemen, but alas, they held all security men hostage. They were about five. They checked all the cars parked in the hotel, obviously looking for my car, but fortunately, I didn’t come with my car that day.

“The next thing, they held the bartender hostage, and asked him “where is MC’s car? I was looking at them from my room. Then, they asked for the driver and the bartender took them to where he slept. The one at the gate had a pump action gun. I heard what they said to the driver before they shot him. During that time, I called the owner of the hotel to invite the police, but before they came, the guys had run away. They were assassins. The police are investigating, I thank the Lagos CP on that matter, they have recovered some of the cars stolen by the bandits.”

Obviously, the notorious gangster was not so lucky this time, which begs the question, has karma finally caught up with MC Oluomo?

He is known to be a philanthropist, spending a large part of his wealth to support the Yoruba Movie industry, with rumours suggesting that has also spent some very personal time with some of the industry’s top actresses.

He is also said to be an American citizen, indeed, his legally recognised wife and children are not based in the country, they live in the United States of America.

But MC Oluoma is first and foremost an area boy who ruled Oshodi and its environs with an Iron hand, he has been at the top of the game for years, now it seem he has reached the limit of his luck, though even from the sick bed, the good looking gangster still inspire fear among his detractors, one of which is Koko Zaria who had without prompting came out to state his innocence regarding the attack.

However, be that as it may, the legend of MC Oluomo will live on for years to come, and if he survives, one would only hope he gives up the life of a gangster and live like a more respectful member of the society.
