Cardiff manager Neil Warnock is set to address the media on Monday afternoon as the family of missing striker Emiliano Sala continue their own search for answers.

Staff and supporters of the Premier League club will wear yellow daffodils at Arsenal when the team returns to action on Tuesday night in respect of Sala, whose family saw a target of 300,000 euros (£259,000) reached on Sunday to help fund a new search around the Channel Islands.

An official search and rescue operation for the Piper PA-46 Malibu carrying the Argentinian striker and pilot David Ibbotson was called off last Thursday.

Pleas for the search to resume were made by the 28-year-old player’s family, Argentinian football stars Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona and Sergio Aguero and the country’s president Mauricio Macri.

The football legends of Argentina, Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi have joined voices calling for the search for missing Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala to resume.

Sala’s family have raised more than £250,000 to fund a new search around the Channel Islands after donations from footballers including Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan and France World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and Argentine president Mauricio Macri have also called on authorities not to give up trying to find the footballer after the official search and rescue operation for the Piper PA-46 Malibu carrying Sala and pilot David Ibbotson was called off last Thursday.

But the family have not given up hope, and after a 300,000 Euro target was reached on a GoFundMe appeal, they issued a statement thanking supporters for the “exceptional generosity in a drama that goes far beyond football.

Maradona posted a picture of Sala on his Facebook page, alongside the caption “hope never dies” and Messi wrote on Instagram : “While there is possibility, even a shred of hope, we ask don’t stop searching.”

The appeal to fund a new search for missing Emiliano Sala will remain open after the target of 300,000 euros (£259,000) was raised, the family said on Sunday.

Donations from footballers including Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan and France World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe helped a GoFundMe page raising money for the search to reach a revised target of 300,000 euros (£259,000).

A statement from the family issued on Sunday afternoon via the GoFundMe page read: “As the new ceiling of 300,000 euros has been reached, Emiliano’s family and we would like to thank you again for your exceptional generosity, in a drama that goes far beyond football.

“Donations continue to flow and the prize will remain open for the moment, waiting for news from Emiliano and the driver, D. Ibbotson. “As a reminder, these funds will be used exclusively in research (mobilization of sea and air transport, exploration of the seabed, etc.) and help to families. Thanks again.”
