First Picture Of Mum Who Died Screaming ‘Where’s My Baby’ After Being Hit By Car

These are the first pictures of a young mum who died after by hit by a car as she crossed a road with her eight-month-old son. Nicole Newman, 23, was heard screaming ‘where’s my baby?’ after both were struck in Penge, south London, at around 8pm yesterday.

Ms Newman died at the scene and her baby was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Speaking to MailOnline, a neighbour close to the scene said: ‘Her last words were screams of “where’s my baby? Where’s my baby?”.

‘That was just after the emergency services arrived. But they kept her in the same spot, so I knew that she was unlikely to survive.

I’d heard shouting and arguing at first and I thought it was neighbours rowing.

‘When I looked outside a passer-by was holding the baby to stop the car or the driver moving from the point of impact.’

The driver of the car that is believed to have hit them was also taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and is helping police with their inquiries.

A police spokesman said: ‘A car was found to have been involved in a collision with a mother and a baby in a pram.

‘Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, the mother, believed to be in her 20s, was declared dead at the scene.

‘The baby has been taken to hospital. His injuries have been assessed as life-threatening. Road closures have been put in place.

‘The driver of the car, who stopped at the scene, has been taken to hospital. His injuries are non life-threatening.’
