It may be a new year, but the tradition of stupid internet challenges lives on in 2019. This time, it's the Netflix hit film "Bird Box" inspiring people to do something dangerous.

The film, which stars Sandra Bullock, centers around a post-apocalyptic world in which people have to wear blindfolds or risk being possessed by monsters that will make them kill themselves. So what are people doing? The Bird Box Challenge. Blindfolding themselves and attempting to complete potentially dangerous tasks. What's the worst that could happen?!

It's impossible to know exactly how many people are partaking in the challenge, and there are plenty of harmless posts with people simply wearing blindfolds while not doing anything dangerous. But Netflix was concerned enough about people potentially getting hurt that the company felt it necessary to release a statement condemning it.

The movie was already generating a large number of memes, namely from the scene featuring Bullock rowing a boat blindfolded. But now, videos of people doing the "challenge" are going viral. Warning, there is some explicit language in these videos.
