Protest as F-SARS officer kills truck driver in Lagos
The Ijede Magistrates’ Court 5 in the Ikorodu Magisterial District, on Thursday, granted bail in the sum of N100,000 to a 45-year-old woman, Ngozi Adeolu, who was arraigned for assaulting an employee of a beverage company, Onyema Okonjo.File photo |
Adeolu pleaded not guilty to the three counts bordering on conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, inflicting bodily harm on the victim and obstruction of movement of the company’s workers, which were preferred against her.
Adeolu was said to have been supplied with cartons of expired beverage products by Giant Beverages Limited located in Ikorodu.
It was gathered that when Adeolu called the company to report the matter, she did not get a satisfactory answer.
She was, however, said to have gone to the company, used her vehicle to block the entrance, grabbedOkonjo and bit him on his abdomen.
According to the charge sheet, Adeolu was said to have conducted herself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The charges read in part, “That you, Ngozi Adeolu, of 134 Aladelola Street, Ikosi, on December 3, 2018, around 1.40pm on the premises of Giant Beverages Limited situated at Igbodu, Ikorodu, in the Ikorodu Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 16 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
“That you, Ngozi Adeolu, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did assault one Onyema Okonjo of Giant Beverages Limited by giving him a bite on his upper abdomen and caused him bodily harm, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 174 (E) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
The prosecutor, Inspector Aminu Isaac, said the woman was arrested for threat of violence as well as inflicting injury on Okonjo through the bite.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs Oshodi Makanju, adjourned the case till January 17, 2019.
