Ben Bruce reacts as Charly Boy says Atiku is not an option

Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has reiterated its position that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is not a viable alternative to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Charly Boy, who is the leader of OurMumuDonDo movement, shared a video of Donald Duke, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) explaining why he cannot merge with the PDP. Duke in the video said he will not do well if he merges with the PDP.

He said it is impossible for anyone to win the presidency on the platform of the PDP and fight corruption successfully because the culture of the PDP is “inimical to Nigeria’s growth”.

Sharing the video on Twitter, Charly Boy said: “Here's one reason I tell you #AtikuNotAnOption.

Reacting to the tweet, Senator Ben-Murray Bruce, representing Bayelsa East constituency, said Atiku is the only candidate that can dislodge President Buhari in 2019. He wrote on Facebook: “You and I know that as handsome and eloquent as he is, Donald Duke has no chance. Not because he is not a good candidate (he is), but because of the realpolitik of Nigeria.

What you are doing is strategically unwise. I mean no disrespect to either you nor Mr Duke, but if you truly want Buhari gone, Atiku is the ONLY choice.”

Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Party has formalised the substitution of its 2019 presidential candidate’s running mate, Dr Junaid Mohammed, with Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, who is also the national secretary of the party.

SDP national publicity secretary, Alfa Mohammed, who gave the confirmation on Thursday, December 13 in Abuja, said that the substitution was done long ago.

He said that Junaid’s substitution was subjected to deliberation at the party’s leadership level which he was a member of. Mohammed said the consensus was that Junaid should step down as running mate to the SDP presidential candidate, Donald Duke, for strategic reasons.
