Police officers
Two men identified as Ayo Jimoh and Abdulahi Jubrila, have been arrested by the police for defrauding a woman, Mrs Comfort Macaulay, of N1m, Punch Metro reports.

Jimoh was also accused of parading himself as a prophet.

It was gathered that Jimoh informed Macaulay that she was in danger and she needed to offer some money to the Holy Spirit.

It was learnt that 45-year-old Jimoh collected N266,000 and two gold wedding rings valued at N750,000 from Macaulay.

Jimoh in his statement to the police confessed to the crime.

He said, “I collected Mrs Macaulay’s wedding rings because I know she is rich. I sold the rings to Jubrila.”

However, Jubrila in his statement to the police said, “Ayo is my very good customer. He told me that the rings were his.”

The two suspects were arraigned before Candide Johnson Magistrates’ Courthouse, Ikorodu, Lagos, on four counts.

The charges read in part, “That you, Ayo Jimoh, and others at large at Itumoja Street, Ikorodu, in Ikorodu Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; stealing thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

“That you, Abdulahi Jubrila, at the aforesaid magisterial district, did receive two wedding rings valued at N750,000 from one Ayo Jimoh, property of Mrs Comfort Macaulay, which is reasonably suspected to have been stolen, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 328(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015."

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
