FULL VIDEO: How Omoyele Sowore and #TakeItback Movement were TEAR GASSED in Palace of Ooni Ife
In what seemed like a coordinated attack, presidential aspirant and founder of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, and members of his Take It Back movement were tear-gassed while prostrating before the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, on Monday.
Sowore, the founder of online news platform - Sahara Reporters, while giving the account of the incident in video, said his team and some students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), who accompanied him to the palace were also physically assaulted by thugs within the palace premises.
While protesting against the three-hour delay before they could meet the Ooni, ‘someone out of anger’ set a tear gas in the hall they were meeting with the King.
The Ooni was ‘practically choking’ and didn't stand from his sit.
The video which shows the chiefs, elders of the royal palace coughing due to the tragic incident.
At a point, some were forced to exit the room where they were sitting, doors and windows widely opened for air to gain entrance.
The Ooni, however, condemned the attack, saying such had never happened before in a palace in Nigeria and called for calm and restraint on both sides.
He regretted the ugly incident, describing it as embarrassing.
