News In Pictures: PVC’s Registration Disrupted, Scores Injured As Ondo Youths Protest 10-Year-Blackout

Youths of the Southern Senatorial District of Ondo State, Wednesday shut down socio-economic activities in Okitipupa, one of the six local governments affected by a prolonged power outage.

The joint peaceful protest embarked upon by the Artisans and trade unions was said to have turned violent after some hoodlums hijacked the demonstration.

According to eyewitnesses, the protest led to the disruption of the ongoing Permanent Voters Card registrations at the local government INEC’s office with those waiting for the exercise chased out of INEC’s premises as well as officials of the commission.

During the protest, many people were also said to have sustained varied degrees of injuries with cars and other property in INEC office damaged.

The aggrieved protesters forcefully closed down shops, before they proceeded to Okitipupa Local Government Council where they chased out members of staff of the council and vandalized lots of property.

On August 1st, the youths had shut down the ever busy Benin – Ore highway over the prolonged power outage in the Senatorial District.
