Guilty as Charged! Man jailed 12 years for beating his wife

A man will spend the next 12 years in a prison after a video of him beating his wife went viral.

Daudi Nzomo, a Kenyan man, was seen in the video also kicking his wife.

Nzomo pleaded guilty to the charge of grievous bodily harm but urged the magistrate to give him a lenient sentence as he is the sole breadwinner in his family.

Magistrate James Mwaniki said Nzomo had been violent in the past. He, therefore, sentenced him to 12 years in prison, two of which were suspended, Kenya’s Daily Nation newspaper reports.

The video of Nzomo assaulting his wife was widely circulated on social media last week, causing outrage.

Nzomo’s wife who is currently at Nairobi Women’s Hospital for treatment has vowed to divorce him.
