Aluminium fabricator arraigned for cultism, unlawful possession of firearms
An aluminium fabricator, Ibrahim Odulana, has been arraigned for cultism and possession of firearms before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court.The 30-year-old was arraigned alongside his friends, Abiodun Quadri and Ahmed Alagbe, on three counts of cultism, breach of peace and unlawful possession of firearms.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Odulana was arrested by the police after he allegedly threatened his uncle with a gun for sending him out of the house.
In his statement to the police, the Ogun State indigene said he was under the influence of alcohol.
He said, “I had a problem with my uncle because he sent me out of the house. Based on that, I went to get myself drunk.
“Before I knew what was happening, I had brought out a gun to threaten him. The gun was given to me by one Big Hammed. He gave me the gun with six cartridges to keep for him five months ago.”
Odulana, who denied being a cult member, however, said he had cultists as friends.
The police prosecutor, Abiola Adewale, said the offences contravened sections 411, 168(1) (d), 330(d), 51 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The charges read in part, “That you, Ibrahim Odulana, Ahmed Alagbe, Abiodun Quadri, and others at large, sometime in 2015, around 10pm, on Akintunde Street, Lady Lak, Bariga, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit; belonging to an unlawful society called Aiye Confraternity, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
“That you, Ibrahim Odulana, Ahmed Alagbe, Abiodun Quadri, and others at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 168(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
“That you, Ibrahim Odulana, Ahmed Alagbe, and others at large, on May 25, 2018, around 6pm on Akintunde Street, Lady-Lak, Bariga, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did illegally have in your possession one pump-action gun, with six live cartridges, without any permit from the Inspector-General of Police, thereby committing an offences punishable under Section 330(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding magistrate, W. A. Salami, admitted them to bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
He said, “The sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years’ tax payments to the Lagos State Government.”
He adjourned the case till September 10, 2018.
