England’s kit colours this World Cup are red and white, with one strip of each colour.

Fifa decides who wears which kit by designating one team as the home team (therefore meaning they wear their regular kit). From there, the ‘away’ team can wear their regular kit unless there would be colour confusion.

Guidelines state that: "If the two teams’ colours might cause confusion, the host team shall be entitled to wear its official team kit and the visiting team shall use its reserve team kit or, if necessary, a combination of the official and the reserve team kits."

Sweden have been announced as the home side, and will be wearing their traditional yellow and blue kit, featuring some natty blue stripes along the side and blue v-neck detailing.

Because England’s colours are both markedly different, it was technically at their discretion what strip to wear.
However, it seems that they’ll be sporting red if this Instagram post is anything to go by.

The red strip was what the squad wore when they beat Colombia on penalties. They may be thinking that – since they broke the England penalty curse wearing it – the kit is a good luck charm.

England have worn white the last two times they played Sweden in the World Cup – in 2002 when Sweden wore blue, and in 2006 when they wore yellow.

Both these times saw the European sides drawing, so hopefully the switch to red means a new attitude and a win for England.
