The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seriake Dickson on NYSC Matters, Mr. Suoyo Appah, disclosed this in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Friday, during the issuance of NYSC discharge certificates to the outgoing corps members.

The four corps members were reportedly involved in double accidents while returning from the state office of the NYSC in Yenagoa.

The victims, identified as Adejina Victor, Omofopa Godwin, Obieze Chukwuemeka and Alaromi Olumide left Koluama 2, the place of their primary assignments in Southern Ijaw for Yenagoa, to undertake their clearance at the NYSC office.

After completing clearance, the corps members took a commercial tricycle, popularly known as Keke Marwa, to a waterside to board a boat to Koluama.

But a tipper, whose driver reportedly lost control, hit the tricycle conveying the corps members on the Swali Bridge in the state capital. Sympathisers, who rushed to scene, were said to have moved the injured corps members to another tricycle, which took them to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, for treatment.

But the tricycle operator, who was reportedly racing to the hospital to save the lives of the corps members, was involved in another accident.

Two of the corps members died on the spot at the scene of the second accident while two others were in life-threatening conditions.

The deceased and injured corps members were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa. Appah, who condoled with the families of the deceased corps members, described the incident as sad and unfortunate.

In her speech, the state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Loto Bolade, commended the state government for its assistance to the corps members. Bolade, who said 1,401 corps members successfully completed the service year, urged them to be good ambassadors of the scheme.
