Acting Can't Pay My Bills - Pretty Actress, Mimi Orjiekwe

As many Nigerians continue to ask what many Nollywood stars especially female actresses do to buy big houses and cars they flaunt all over social media, a popular actress has revealed that acting only cannot pay her bills.

Mimi Ojiekwe

While speaking in an exclusive interview with PUNCH's Sunday Scoop, popular Nollywood actress, Mimi Orjiekwe, opened up on how she is now regretting her decision to settle for acting as a career, adding that she would have been a better person if she was working in the oil and gas sector.

She said, “I still have a lot to do as an actor and woman, though I am enjoying my life. If I had known better, I would have probably pursued a career in the oil and gas sector. I love acting but there is no money in it as much as in the oil sector.

"I have a lot of expenses; I have a baby, do charity, like to look good and have a family to support. For you to be able to do all these, you need to make a lot of money. Unfortunately, acting cannot give you much money.”

While admitting that the movie industry has become bigger, the mother of one insisted that she was not in competition with anyone.

She said, “I am just myself. If you are successful today, I wish you the best but life is not all about competition. I only do things I love to do and it has helped me grow as an actress and individual.”

Speaking further she revealed that she find it hard to convince her parents to let her venture into acting.

She said; “When I wanted to get into acting, I didn’t have much trouble convincing my father. I am the only daughter and his favourite.

"My father also knew that I would always go for anything I wanted and not let acting affect my education. He was so proud of me when people starting telling him that they saw me acting on screen.

“I call my mother a hustler; I learnt how to be strong from her. Till now, I still learn a lot from her and she has always been there for me,” Orjiekwe added.
