The police in Niger State have arrested a 45-year-old former taxi cab driver in Abuja, Adamu Yusuf, for car theft.

Aminu Ibrahim of Chanchaga had parked his Honda Civic car with registration number MD701ABC Abuja at the gate of Kure Ultra-modern market, Minna, but the vehicle was stolen before he returned from his shopping.

Northern City News gathered on Tuesday that the victim wanted to shop for his family on his way back to Abuja when the incident occurred.

Checks revealed that the Kure market is notorious for car theft and thievery by miscreants.

Yusuf told our correspondent that he had sold many stolen vehicles, adding that he usually shared the proceeds with his informant.

“I operate from Abuja to Minna depending on the location of the vehicle; once my informant gave me information, I will swing into action to make sure the car is dispossessed from the owner immediately.

“Stealing cars is the only business I know how to do; it is not that I like what I’m doing but it is the quickest way of making money to sort myself out.

“I have tried all I can to stop stealing cars but I can’t because there is no job anywhere. I was a taxi driver before, but the money I was getting was not enough to meet my needs,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed that the car had been recovered from the suspect, adding that the matter would be charged to court soon.
