Tragedy as 'Evil' Man Kills Wife of 10 Years for Not Giving Him Food

The operatives of the Nigerian Police Force from the Niger State Police Command, have arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 30-year-old wife, Auta.

The suspect

A 50-year-old man, Tanko Bamaiyi, has reportedly killed his 30-year-old wife, Auta, because she refused to serve him food.

Bamaiyi was arrested at Maigoge village in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, claiming he killed his wife because she starved him of food.

It was learnt that he married Auta over 10 years ago.

It was also learnt that in the heat of argument over food, the suspect took a machete and killed his wife. He reportedly threw the machete into a river in his community.

Bamaiyi told our correspondent yesterday his wife had been starving him for almost five days.

He said: “In the heat of argument I used my cutlass (machete) and killed her.

“My wife was fond of not giving me food in time and when I complained, she will abuse me. She never gave me food each time I asked for it.

“She even asked my 10-year-old daughter to abuse me because I was asking for food and whenever I want to correct the girl she will abuse me.”

The suspect also advised other men that are quick to anger to control their anger in order to avoid killing their wives out of anger.

Bamaiyi also asked the police to forgive him.

He said: “I lost my temper. I am sorry, extremely sorry for what happened. It is the act of the devil and I pray my in-laws will find a place in their hearts to forgive me. I regret all of my actions.”

While confirming the arrest, the state acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Peter Sunday, disclosed that the suspect used machete to kill his wife for failing to give him food and threw the machete which he used to kill her into a river in his area.

The acting spokesman said that the matter had been charged to court.
