Pep Guardiola has issued an ominous warning to his title rivals - insisting Manchester City are still to hit top gear.

But the Catalan, who has overseen a new Premier League record of 15 straight wins, is adamant the runaway leaders will not equal Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ by going through an entire campaign undefeated.

City take on Tottenham on Saturday looking to make it 16 straight victories.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side also represent the last major test before the turn of the year, with City already claiming maximum points against Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

That stunning run has seen them build up an 11-point lead at the top of the table - but Guardiola insists there is still more to come.

“It’s important to play better,” said the City manager. “That is the most important thing.

“Records are okay, but they stay there and one day they will be broken. We fous on the pitch and try to be better, makes chances, concede few.

“I am most satisfied with the way we play.

“Statistics are good, but I have the feeling we can be much, much better.”

While Guardiola insists City remain a work in progress, he has repeatedly dismissed suggestions his team can emulate Arsene Wenger’s 2004 champions, who were dubbed the Invincibles after going through an entire league season without defeat.

“It’s not going to happen,” he said. “We are going to lose games - it belongs to Arsene Wenger and his amazing team.

“What is happening now is an exception. It’s not normal what we’ve done.

“We’ll try to maintain it, but we are going to lose games.”

Tottenham share a distinction with Everton as the only Premier League side Guardiola has failed to beat since taking over at City.

And despite last season’s runners-up currently sitting 18 points adrift of City, Guardiola insists they remain one the biggest challenges of the season.

“It’s important,” he added. “We are playing Tottenham. They are so tough, like last season. Nothing will change.

“Spurs can play many ways and many systems.

“Their phsyicality when we played at White Hart Lane, I realised how tough the season would be.

“They attack well in the channels, young players who are the base of the national team.

“English football can be pleased with what he (Pochettino) has done.

“I like to watch them play and it will be a good game,”
