Vicki Herron was told that she would probably never conceive again, and in the off chance that she did, she and the baby would probably die.

“After being told there was a 0.07% chance of falling pregnant, we were stunned to find out we were expecting,” Vicki told Caters News. “We were told there was a chance that I and the baby could die due to the lack of oxygen.”

After having two premature daughters (who are alive and well), and two stillbirths, Vicki was diagnosed with hyperhomocysteinemia, a condition that causes the blood to become too thick, thus diminishing its oxygen content.

When Vicki became pregnant again, she and her husband regarded it as a miracle. Despite the deadly gamble, Vicki decided to take her chances. Her pregnancy was closely monitored. Baby Olivia was born at 25 weeks weighing 1 lb., 15 oz. After 20 weeks in the hospital, she arrived home weighing 10 lbs., 7.5 oz. — her progress has been huge.

“Me and Adrian knew the risks, but we decided to go ahead with the pregnancy,” she said. “But it was all worthwhile when we saw Olivia and how much of a fighter she was.”

Vicki regards Olivia as a miracle baby and is sharing her story to give parents who may be facing medical difficulties a bit of hope.

“We’re so proud of Olivia; there were so many times when she shouldn’t have survived,” she said. “I hope our story gives other parents hope and we never imagined we’d have a healthy baby girl this time last year.”
