Outrage and Cry of Injustice as Indian Govt. Cremates Nigerian Man Without Informing Family

The body of a young Nigerian man has been allegedly cremated by the Indian Government after it was found beside the railway tracks as Nigerians in the country are crying out for injustice.
The man allegedly cremated
Nigerian community in India has suggested that a Nigerian man whose body was found beside the railway tracks near Dapodi by officials of Government Railway Police (GRP) on October 23 was missing since October 16 and may have been murdered.

Objections were also raised over the GRP’s disposal of the body, which was done on Monday without informing anybody, including the Foreigners’ Registration Office (FRO).

According to Sakal Times, the deceased, Ikechukwu Kenneth Ozdagu (34), was on a business visa since August 2013. He used to export Indian garments to Nigeria. Romeo Utah, a friend of Ozdagu, said, “We suspect foul play behind his death.

"I have seen the picture of his body and it doesn’t look like he was run over by a train. It seems that he was beaten up and tortured. I last met him on October 15 during Sunday church prayers."

Gyang Samuel, President of Nigerian Students Union, said, “We suspect that he was kidnapped and murdered, after which his body was thrown on the railway tracks. He was a humble guy who was religious and busy in his garment business.

"He was not involved any criminal activities. We are also surprised by the way in which GRP has handled the issue. They cremated his body without informing anyone from the African community. They did not even inform the FRO.”

Samuel said that GRP was not even ready to share Ozdagu’s post-mortem report. “The police should share accurate information with us so that we can inform our embassy.

We request the police to investigate the case so that we can know how he was killed.” Himmat Mane-Patil, Assistant Police Inspector, GRP, said, “We found the body on October 23. We waited for seven days and then cremated the body at YCM Hospital.”

Mane-Patil said that they did not inform the FRO as officials who found the body didn’t state that the body was of a foreign national in their report. When contacted, constable Ovhal said, “I was not able to identify whether he was an African and didn’t mention so in the report.”
