A premature British baby was held hostage in a Turkish hospital after the parents could not pay the childbirth bill when they had her.

A tiny little baby girl, Ayda Ward, was held ‘hostage’ by a Turkish hospital who wanted her distraught parents to pay nearly £100,000 in medical bills before they would release her.

According to The Sun UK, the tot was born three months early when her mum Adele Blake, 28, gave birth while on holiday with partner Brandon Ward, 19.

The desperate couple wrongly believed their insurance company would cover the costs of the £3,000 Caesarean section, follow up medication and £1,200-a-day hospital bill for their premature baby.

The new parents from Bradford, West Yorks, finally had to call in the police for help so they could get baby Ayda out of hospital after an agonising 77 day ‘nightmare’ in Turkey.

In an exclusive interview Adele told The Sun: “I can’t explain the pain this has caused us. I just hope that no-one else ever has to suffer such cruel and unnecessary treatment.”

She and recovery driver Brandon went on holiday to the popular Mediterranean resort of Marmaris on June 26th this year when Adele was six months pregnant.

Adele said: “We thought it would be nice to have a holiday together with Brandon’s family before the baby was born.”

Responsible Adele checked with her GP and was declared ‘fit to fly’ but three days after arriving at the Club Aida resort she went into labour by the hotel pool.

She said: “I was just eating some chips when my waters broke. It was a complete shock and I panicked.

“I knew it shouldn’t be happening. I was sobbing in the back of the ambulance.”

Terrified Adele was taken to the state hospital in Marmaris and from there rushed to a specialist paediatric unit at the Tekden Hospital in Denizli - four hours away.

She said: “Brandon wasn’t allowed to be with me as it’s not the done thing in Turkey so his mum Karen was with me.

"They strapped me down to a table for an emergency cesarean.

"Almost as soon as I came round from the anaesthetic a receptionist arrived in my room and started demanding money.

“I was groggy and confused and really only wanted to see my baby but they wheeled me down to the office, insisting I make a down payment.”

It was a further TEN hours before Adele got to meet her baby daughter for the first time.
