CAN Tells Osinbajo What to Do about the Current Administration

The leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria has advised Osinbajo on a particular area to focus on, in this current administration.

The Christian Association of Nigeria has admonished Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to correct the imbalance in the polity and other unconstitutional actions taken by the Federal Government.

It also called on him  to stop discrediting the organisation in his bid  to “win the heart of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The CAN President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, said this on Wednesday in Abuja in reaction to Osinbajo’s statement that there was no plan to Islamise the country.

But Ayokunle in a statement by his media aide, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, insisted that the plot by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to Islamise Nigeria was real.

It urged Osinbajo  to cross-check his facts before making public remarks on the issue next time.

The statement read, “The CAN President said that the body of Christians in Nigeria have long been aware of the grand plot to Islamise Africa, with Nigeria as a major focus, stressing that Nigerian government has been working in tandem with the Organisation Of Islamic Countries and Islam In Africa Organisation to achieve this.

“CAN, however, advised Osinbajo, a Professor of Law, to use his good office to correct the imbalance in the Nigerian system and other alleged unconstitutional actions noted with the government in order to reduce tension in the polity,” it said.

Ayokunle said most Christian leaders in Nigeria were taken aback by the remarks credited to Osinbajo in the media and had sought the intervention of the leadership of CAN to set the records straight with documented facts on the plan to Islamise the nation.

The cleric said that CAN has not been opposing, and would not oppose Islamic evangelism in any part of Nigeria, even if done with the support of the government since Christians also evangelise.

He however stressed that the Christian body will never support any government to make Islam a state religion under any guise.

“We are not opposed to Islamic evangelism by any Muslim group if done with peaceful motive; The Christians also exercise their constitutional rights to do so through revivals and gospel rallies,” the CAN leader stated.
