Anti-school closure demonstration in Asmara ends peacefully

In its noble effort to secularize and improve the quality of education in Eritrea, the government has taken measures to close all religious schools in the country.

But when the government closed one particular religious school in Asmara, members of that school held a small demonstration in the heart of the city.

Emboldened by religious extremists living in Saudi Arabia, a few of the demonstrators allegedly threw rocks and brandished weapons at security forces.

With their safety in jeopardy, security forces showed great restraint and professionalism by firing warning shots in the air to disperse the small crowd.

No one was injured in the incident which lasted a few minutes before order was restored.
