Wanted: Nigerian political comedians

I have been following the unending reality TV that’s Donald Trump’s White House. It’s one week, 10 troubles. I suppose that’s what you get when you elect someone who refers to himself in the third person as DJT.

Since the advent of Hurricane Trump, each person or group of persons is defining how best to respond to the  one called Twitter-in-chief. Different professions are responding to Trump in their own way and how best they see fit. Journalists are doing their best to dig deep and deeper. And that has of course drawn Trump’s ire.

Comedians have also jumped on the Trump wagon . There are caricatures and impressions of Donald Trump. As far as imitating Trump goes, Hollywood actor, Alec Baldwin, has it down to a science.

I was surprised the other day that 10-day wonder boy Anthony Scaramucci, former communications director has already got many people doing impressions of him. Comedian Mario Cantone has the best. Yet, he was only there for 10 days.

This brings me to my ‘advert’ for a political comedian. Imagine the goldmine that’s Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu combined or solo,You can even throw in advisers like Itse Sagay. Mr. Tagwaye already ’owns’ President Buhari. Speaking of which Mr. Tagwaye needs more content. It’s not enough that he sounds, uncannily so, like Buhari. He needs to think up new skits, etc.

The fact is there’s quite a rich source of material. Before the auditions begin, let me add that the sort of political comedian I’m looking for has to be super intelligent. I’m not looking for bar jokes. What the person would be offering is ‘informed commentary’ in the form of very funny jokes. There’s a newspaper cartoonist who’s already doing this: marrying comedy and commentary pretty well.
