The Magistrates’ Court in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, has ordered a man to be remanded at the Kirikiri Prison for the first 30 days for allegedly defrauding the Chief Judge (CJ) of Lagos State, Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade.Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade |
He was also alleged to have forged revenue receipt of the Lagos State Government to cover up his act.
The Police, in a charge sheet attached with his remand application, stated that the suspect and others still at large, had between January and March this year, conspired among themselves to commit the alleged fraud.
The Charge Sheet reads: “The suspect had defrauded the Lagos CJ of the said N7 million, being payment made to him for Building Plan Approval, which he failed to remitted to the account of the Lagos State Government.”
According to the Police, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 411, 334(1), 365(1), and 314(1)(A)(B) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The Police also urged the court to remand the suspect, pending investigation, and that the remand application was in pursuant to Section 264(1)(2) of Administration of Criminal Justice Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
Consequently, the Magistrate, Mrs. A. O. Salawu, ordered that the suspect be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons for the first 30 days.
She adjourned the matter till September 5, this year.
