Man arrested for homosexuality, robbery in Jos

A suspected homosexual, Michael Atsen, 25, who disguised as a woman, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command for allegedly robbing his victims of huge sums of money.

The suspect, who is currently detained at the Anglo-Jos Division of the Nigeria Police Force, was said to have been arrested at Gwom Guest House, Hwolse area of Jos.

A source said the suspect was arrested about 9.30pm on Thursday when the guest house management raised the alarm on the suspicion that he was not a female as he claimed.

A police patrol team rushed to the place, arrested him but later discovered that he was not a lady.

Atsen, who claimed to be a resident of Liberty Dam Road, was said to have dressed as a woman and solicited sex from his victims, an act the police said was “against the order of nature.”

The suspect was said to have earlier been arrested by security agencies in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, and recently in Jos where he was beaten by soldiers.

“The last time that he was arrested, Atsen, who claims to be from Jos East, claimed to be Maryam,” the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, ASP Matthias Tyopev, stated, adding that the suspect would  soon be arraigned in court.

He said, “During interrogation, the suspect said he could not count the number of people who had fallen victim to his trick. This is somebody that was arrested last year and beaten up by soldiers, they even videoed him. He was arrested over the same thing and was released, it is his habit.

“When I asked him why he won’t stop the homosexual lifestyle, he said the people who patronise him pay him between N1,000 and N3,000.

“Although, he is claiming to be a gay, we are looking at it from the criminal angle because some people have made reports to the police and complained that some men posing as women have been robbing them at gunpoint.”

The police spokesman further said the suspect told the police that  some of his clients chased him out of their hotel rooms on discovering that he was a man, while those who were gay simply had sex with him.

 He said, “We are suspecting him to be one of those people that when you take them to the house, they will point a gun at you and rob you.

“He could even kill his victim and nobody will know. I don’t think homosexuality is the only thing he does. That is why we are sensitising people and the public against giving lift to any woman they don’t know.”
