The final words a dying woman spoke to her husband after getting involved in a horrific accident, has been revealed.

It has been revealed that the final words of a wife to her husband before she was impaled by a 13ft tree branch were: ‘Don’t let me die will you'.

According to Metro UK, Elaine Davison, 55, died in a freak accident when a tree toppled over and smashed through the windscreen of a silver Vauxhall while she was with her husband Edward in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, in November 2010.

She suffered fatal injuries after the 13ft branch went through her chest and died in hospital after doctors battled for 30 minutes to try and save her.

Edward managed to escape with just a splinter to his finger, an inquest at Wakefield Coroner’s Court was told.

Edward who had been in a relationship with Elaine for 30 years, told the inquest that his wife told him she was hurt after the tree hit their car.

He said: ‘The only other thing she said to me was “don’t let me die, will you?” and I said “no, I won’t”.
‘That’s one of the hardest things. It’s the first time I’ve ever had to lie to her and I can’t take it back.’

The couple, from Pontefract, had left Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, at 8pm that night after visiting their daughter Natalie who suffers from Crohn’s disease.

They were driving home along the A642, a 30mph main road to an inner section of the M62, ‘crunching’ over tree debris which had fallen into the road.

Edward described how minutes later the car started ‘shaking’ because of ‘blustery’ winds which frightened his wife.

He said: ‘I could remember Elaine saying to me that she didn’t like it and she appeared nervous.
‘All of a sudden, there was a loud bang and a crash. For a split second I saw something fall into the road directly in front of the car.

‘I braked immediately but the tree caused the car to go up onto two wheels and I put my arm across Elaine to protect her from the potential impact but the car stopped.
‘I could feel a strong breeze gushing through the car and I immediately saw that the windscreen was shattered.
‘I went into a blind panic and asked Elaine if she was ok, she replied ‘no I’m hurt’. Her head was slumped to one side, I kept talking to her saying it would be alright.’

Edward described ‘frantically’ breaking small branches from the tree so he could get to his wife and flagging down a passing ambulance to help.

The inquest heard that Elaine was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead after attempts at resuscitation.

A post-mortem concluded that she had died from injuries consistent with the branch of a tree penetrating through her abdominal wall.

Michael Ferries, West Yorkshire Fire Rescue Service watch commander, said the wind on the night of Elaine’s death was the ‘strongest he had experienced as an adult’.

The inquest continues.
