Kidnapped Kaduna Students, Lecturer Regain Freedom

Three students and a lecturer kidnapped by gunmen on Friday have regained freedom from their captives.
The students and lecturer from the School of Midwifery, Tudun-Wada in Kaduna State, were kidnapped along the Birnin-Gwari road, Birnin-Gwari Local Government of the state.

They were travelling in a Toyota Coaster bus on a visit to one of their colleagues hospitalised in the area when they ran into the kidnappers, who abducted the three students and the lecturer.

But on Sunday, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, said they had regained freedom and were in good condition and already united with their families.

The state government, he said, commended security agencies and community leaders for the sustained efforts that led to their freedom.

Meanwhile, six notorious kidnappers terrorising commuters on Kaduna-Abuja highway have been arrested. The Kaduna State internal security outfit, Operation Yaki, announced the arrest on Sunday.

The suspects were picked up between Thursday and Friday during joint operations by the Operation Yaki Surveillance Patrol Team and the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Teams with the support from the Technical Intelligence Unit.

The arrest followed the deployment of no fewer than 600 police officers and men and 90 patrol vehicles to man the Abuja-Kaduna/Kaduna-Zaria/Kano highways.

Those arrested included a kidnap kingpin in the area, Adamu Mamman, a 35-year-old from Amana village in Igabi Local Government Area; Ali Rabo, also known as Blakky, of Liman Ibada village in Chikun Local Government Area; and Awwalu Ahmad, aka Mota, of Rijana village in Kachia Local Government Area who was the main informant of the gang of kidnappers along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

Others arrested are Shehu Idris Shagari, a 27-year old from Gadan Gayan village in Igabi Local Government Area; Umar Antijo, also a 27 year-old, from Rijana village in Kachia Local Government Area; and Babangida Abdullahi of Rijana village in Kachia Local Government Area, who was the receiver of stolen cattle, phones and laptops.
