The summit was held in Liberia’s capital, Monrovia, with Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in attendance. Netanyahu is the first non-African leader invited to address the ECOWAS leaders.
There has been no official statement from Nigeria’s presidency, as to why the country was not represented at the ECOWAS Heads of State meeting, and Fani-Kayode blasted Osinbajo for not attending the meeting.
“It is wrong that @ProfOsinbajo did not attend the ECOWAS Heads of State meeting with @netanyahu today. Nigeria not there. Sad and shameful,” Fani-Kayode tweeted.
Former president Olusegun Obasanjo was, however, in attendance, but it was not certain if he was there to represent Nigeria.
