A little boy has been found in a forest after four days covered in mosquito bites after getting lost on a camping trip surviving on drinking swamp water and eating grass.

A Russian boy who was missing for four days in a forest inhabited by bears and moose has been found alive after a huge manhunt.

Four-year old Dmitry Peskov disappeared on June 10th while out camping with his family.

He was chopping wood with his father when he got tired and asked to return alone to the tent less than 100 metres away. His father agreed, but Peskov lost his way on the journey back.

He was eventually found near an area of swampland after a massive search operation involving over 500 people, mostly local volunteers. While he was missing, Peskov had managed to wander several miles from the campsite.

Local media reported his father as saying the boy was refusing to speak and had survived by eating grass and drinking water from puddles.

Rescuers said they found fresh traces of wild animals during the hunt and one search party even encountered a live bear, The Telegraph reports.

Although alive after his ordeal, Peskov was suffering from severe exposure, dehydration and multiple tick and mosquito bites. He was flown to hospital by helicopter where he is said to be in a stable condition.

The forest where the disappearance happened was in the central Russian Sverdlovsk region near the Ural Mountains.

Volunteer Pavel Karpenko was the person who eventually found Peskov, huddling under a tree. “The kid was lying quite still, without any signs of life and I said over the radio that he is dead. But when he heard my voice he returned to life and started to move his arms and legs,” Karpenko told Russian television.
